We are convinced that a solid grammatical base is imperative in order to speak a language well. Each day the classes begin with a presentation about a structural element of Spanish grammar accompanied by examples of day-to-day situations to illustrate its uses.

Afterwards the class focuses on the students’ oral skills. Sessions are based around current affairs, incorporating material from previous lessons. This allows students to continually build on their prior knowledge, improving their vocabulary and fluidity. We use everyday situations in order to ease learning.

We also offer conferences on History, Art and Literature in the afternoons to complement this programme.

The content you choose could include grammar, conversation, translation, economics, literature or any other subject you wish… it’s up to you!

This programme is usually recommended for students that are only available to study for a short period of time. This course is also useful to those students that require specific knowledge in the foreign language. Translation, economics, literature, and conversation are just a few examples.

Our teacher training programs are designed to help non-native teachers of Spanish, regardless of their experience. The course is structured to help them to reach a higher level of fluency and to refresh their Spanish knowledge. This program explores the theoretical components in which the methodology of teaching Spanish is covered, as well as the practical components in which effective methods of presenting the language to students are demonstrated including day-to-day Spanish aspects.

In the first lesson grammatical structures are reviewed whilst, at the same time, analysing different teaching methods with which these structures can be taught.

The second lesson of the day examines the concepts of teaching and learning Spanish as a foreign language; its application in communication, proposed and alternative methodologies, teaching experiences and the integration of classic linguistic skills into the educational process.

The third lesson concentrates on the practical aspects of language teaching using workshops. These workshops demonstrate communication techniques and activities, how to integrate culture into the learning process, how to create your own teaching materials, how to use language laboratories, teaching and learning Spanish with new technologies, other specialised teachings of Spanish, using the Internet and more…

This is a complete programme with classes in language, culture, and business. A long haul programme is the most effective way to master Spanish.

Whether you start the course at beginner, elementary or intermediate level by the end you will have reached a level of fluency that allows you to communicate perfectly in all circles, be them social or professional. You will be completely immersed in the Spanish language and Spain’s culture. Over time you will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to handle all situations that could arise. Additionally, you can back-up your knowledge with two of the most prestigious diplomas awarded in Spain:The Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (D.E.L.E. or Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language) and the Certificado de Español de los Negocios de la Cámara de Comercio e Industria de Madrid (Certification in Business Spanish of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid).

The program consists of 865 lessons which are divided as follows:

* For the first sixteen weeks there are 5 lessons per day. The first and second lessons focus on grammar while the third, fourth, and fifth lessons are devoted to conversation.
* For the next seven weeks there are 5 lessons per day. The first and second lessons continue to focus on grammar while the third and fourth focus on conversation. The fifth lesson is devoted to culture.
* For the following twelve weeks there are 4 lessons per day. During this period the focus is on D.E.L.E preparation. The fee for the D.E.L.E. exam is not included in the price. Taking the exam is optional (via an external organisation).
* In the last five weeks there are 2 lessons per day. These lessons are devoted to the preparation of the Chamber of Commerce exam. The fee for the exam is not included in the price of the course. Taking the exam is optional (via an external organisation).

We also offer conferences on History, Art and Literature in the afternoons to complement this programme.

The majority of our students begin this program on the first Monday in September and finish in the middle of June. At Christmas there are two weeks of holiday. It is always possible to join the program at a later date but we urge the student to contact us in advance.

Combining our different schools over the academic year can play a fundamental role in the student’s progress and is without a shadow of a doubt the best way to achieve maximum language and cultural immersion. At the same time it gives the student the chance to explore Spain.

This is a 20-lesson-per-week programme with a maximum of 15 students (seven on average) per class. Students can choose to study for anything from 1 to 12 weeks.

The first and second classes of each day focus on grammar. The next two classes are conversational based and the last class explores past papers for exam practice

As the exam is part oral and part written the course involves audiovisual comprehension exercises, specialised texts, and compositions which gradually increase in difficulty depending on the level of the exam that the student is preparing for.

The Certificado exam is for intermediate-level students, the Intermedio is for those who fall in the advanced level and the Superior is only for those with a level of fluency in Spanish.

If the student is a beginner when they arrive they will need three months to prepare for the Certificado exam. If the student is at an intermediate level they should be able to prepare for the Intermediate exam in the same time frame. The same applies for students at an advanced level taking the Superior exam. At Mester we only prepare students for the Intermedio and Superior Diploma exams.

Exam dates are set by the Spanish Government and typically fall in the second or third week of May, August and November. Download the official DELE leaflet!

In 1978, the official Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid established these exams with two objectives. Firstly, to offer businesses a reliable means of evaluating the linguistic skills of their future employees and secondly, to help maintain the status of Spanish as a language of international business communication. These are the most prestigious business exams in Spain today and are highly regarded by organisations throughout the world.

There are three exams at three different levels:

  • The Basic Certificate demonstrates that the student has a basic level of Spanish and some knowledge of business language.
  • The Higher Certificate demonstrates that the student has a good grasp of Spanish and good knowledge of technical terms and phrases used in business.
  • The Diploma demonstrates that the student has an in-depth knowledge of the Spanish economy, the legal and administrative terminology used in Spain and South America and that they are competent in Spanish and Spanish business language.

This is a 10-lesson-per-week programme with a maximum of 6 students per class in 3 different language levels. The course is 4 weeks long.

The exams take place in March, June, July and November. In addition to this course we recommend that you follow one of our language courses at the appropriate level to complement your studies.
